Happiness Manifesto
A Manifesto for a Better Life
By David Cutler
I am, first and foremost, an American.
Shaped by New England grit.
Refined by the energy of New York City.
Grounded in the intellect of Boston.
This is where I live. This is where I build.
And I carry a deep pride in it.
But I am also shaped by my cultural heritage.
On my father's side, the steady, grounded rhythm of Norway.
On my mother's, the warmth, wit, and resilience of Ireland.
Two cultures that, beneath the surface, share a quiet truth:
A deep respect for what is enough.
"Ah, that's grand."
---
I've spent years building, pushing, striving...
Growing businesses. Testing ideas. Chasing progress.
That drive is part of the American spirit—and I believe in it.
But I also believe something is missing in how we define success.
My Nordic/Celtic roots are at odds... Stoic pillagers. Smiling eyes.
I have learned that the future—especially in the age of AI—will demand something deeper from all of us:
Not just smarter systems, but stronger humans.
---
My mission is to help people leverage digital tech for a better analog life.
To sustain the fun...
I believe business growth matters.
I believe innovation matters.
But only if they serve something real:
- Better conversations
- Stronger relationships
- More present lives
Because if technology accelerates everything—but disconnects us from what matters—
we've missed the point.
---
Yes, I am impulsive... But I've paid attention to what pays off.
Not every year needs to be bigger than the last.
Not every moment needs to be turned into content.
A good life is loud and steady.
---
I believe in trust as a foundation.
Trust in people.
Trust in community.
Trust that not everything is a zero-sum game.
---
I believe in small circles and deep roots.
Thousands of good connections.
A handful of deep ones.
The kind you can sit with in silence.
That don't require performance... But open at any moment to dance.
---
I believe in time outside as a form of sanity.
Walks without a destination.
Air that doesn't come through a vent.
Moments that aren't optimized.
Because some of the best thinking—and living—happens when nothing is being measured.
---
Work matters. Building matters. Creating matters.
But not at the expense of life itself.
There is dignity in stopping for the day.
There is strength in being present with the people who matter most.
---
And for me, that's simple.
I like nothing more than making musical noise with my son—
and taking long walks and talking about everything with my wife.
That's not a break from life.
That is life.
---
And sometimes, I remember that I believe in "enough."
Enough income.
Enough progress.
Enough recognition.
Because without "enough," there is no finish line—only a treadmill.
And I don't want a life that feels like constant acceleration.
Striving for balance Is overrated .. All speeds are important.
Contradictions exist. Roll with them.
---
This isn't about rejecting ambition.
It's about redefining it.
Not as endless growth—but as intentional living.
Not as accumulation—but as alignment.
---
If my American life has taught me how to build,
my Norwegian roots have taught me how to steady And focus,
and my Irish heritage has taught me how to connect and have a laugh.
Then the path forward is clear:
- Build something meaningful.
- Stay curious.
- Stay human.
Our individuality is the only thing that will differentiate us from the autonomous AI robots that will not replace us, but will give us the opportunity to iterate and augment our capabilities to be the best humans we can. And if we design our technology to reflect the truth, then we'll have a chance.
And at the end of every day —
Come back to the table.
Sit down.
And know when you have enough And you are lucky enough to appreciate it.
---
That's the life I'm building now.
And that's the future I want to help create.
Love,
David
