Our name, "Circular," embodies our vision of a world where every user operates on an equal footing. We believe that trust is the foundation of all human cooperation. Beyond personal trust, we need trust in the institutions that govern and provide essential services and infrastructure. We believe that achieving this requires the widespread adoption of trustless systems. Circular delivers this essential infrastructure, enabling businesses, industries, and entities to create secure, transparent, and genuinely decentralized blockchains.
Our origin story is unique for a Layer 1 blockchain. The Circular Labs team began with a focus on healthcare, aiming to pioneer data auditing technologies for sensitive areas like medical records and clinical trials.
Within the healthcare space, medical malpractice is alarmingly common, and current legal protections often fail to compensate victims. Healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies can alter records or manipulate data, avoiding liability for errors or harm. This highlights the need for secure and transparent data management systems.
To support healthcare and other critical sectors, our blockchain infrastructure integrates both public and private blockchains. Technologies like ZK Proofs protect data privacy, but legal requirements for data retention present challenges. Public blockchains could retain data longer than needed, posing ongoing liabilities. Our blockchain complies with international standards like GDPR and HIPAA.
During development, we realized our architecture’s broader applicability for private and public blockchains. We see blockchain technology as having a really important role to play in the coming years, with blockchains being the best tools humans have built to date to produce verifiable truth. When it comes to bringing critical industries on-chain, we believe the multi-chain approach is the best solution.
Critical industries such as healthcare absolutely require private blockchains. Unlike other protocols that support private blockchains resembling centralized databases, Circular ensures true decentralization of private chains.
By sharing decentralized nodes across its multi-chain network, Circular maintains the distributed nature of blockchain technology, simplifying setup and adhering to blockchain’s core principles.
To comply with regulations like HIPAA and GDPR, Circular was built from the ground up to cover these use cases and more. It supports Public Permissionless, Public Permissioned, and Private Permissioned chains, addressing all necessary use cases across industries.

Yes, one example is our recent partnership with a leading contract research organization in Europe, focused on clinical research for pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Additionally, we have partnered with AnunaAI and Medism VR to bring credentials and artificial intelligence solutions in healthcare on-chain. These collaborations demonstrate how Circular is building real-world partnerships and integrating critical industries into the blockchain ecosystem, with more partnerships to be announced soon.

Can you also tell us about the 'Proof of Reputation' and why is it important to Circular Protocol?
Circular’s Proof of Reputation (PoR) mechanism incentivizes validators based on future earnings, allowing broader participation without substantial upfront capital requirements. Unlike Proof of Stake (PoS), which penalizes misbehavior through staked amounts, PoR dynamically adjusts transaction fees based on reputation. Fully reputable nodes earn the entire transaction fee, while less reputable nodes earn less, encouraging high performance and alignment with consensus.
Circular’s technology continuously monitors and adjusts validator performance, maintaining high network efficiency and preventing bottlenecks. The consensus process involves creating a new block, broadcasting it, and validating it through collective feedback. The next mining nodes are selected based on their on-chain activity and performance, using verifiable randomness to update leader rotations and exclude non-responsive validators. This approach ensures a fork-proof blockchain, allows parallel block minting on co-chains, and establishes a robust system where truthfulness and reliability enhance stability and credibility. It promotes a scalable blockchain ecosystem with efficient consensus, enhanced security, and a reliable reputation system.
We believe our consensus mechanism is maximally inclusive, enabling anyone with consumer-level hardware to run a node, from a full validator to a light client (depending on their hardware). Being a full participant in other ecosystems, such as Ethereum and Solana, requires huge amounts of staked capital (in the hundreds of thousands of $) or voting fees that cost hundreds to thousands of dollars a month. Neither of these are barriers to entry to participate in the Circular ecosystem.

What are your thoughts on the current crypto market and its future adoption?

I could talk about this topic for hours but i'll try and distill it down to a few key points
My belief, is that the future adoption of cryptocurrency will be driven by new products delivering account and chain abstraction, allowing users to interact with blockchain without realizing it.
I also think real-world asset (RWA) adoption will become a significant driver, as trillions of dollars of assets start to move on-chain. This will inevitably bring those once opposed to cryptocurrency on-chain and push crypto more into the mainstream discussion.
Additionally, more countries with hyper-inflated currencies may look to crypto as an investment solution like El Salvador have, further increasing trading and adoption across the globe.
I could keep going but broadly speaking I believe these will be some of the key drivers in the future adoption of cryptocurrencies and digital assets.

There's a lot we've got cooking that I'm really excited to talk about
We're developing a simple yet powerful browser extension wallet to provide users with a seamless and secure way to interact with the Circular blockchain. I think the quality of browser extension wallets has really level'd up in the last 1-2 years and I believe ours will be right up there with the best in class products
The next one is an updated blockchain explorer
I don't know about you all, but I think blockchain explorers are pretty terribly designed for mass market adoption. I've never used an explorer that I've loved
We’re working on an updated explorer that aims to be the most human readable explorer on the market.
Our goal is to build an explorer that even your older family members who have never used crypto could easily navigate and understand what they’re looking at. All while at the same time providing the ability to switch to a more technical view for developers.
Some of the other developments include, an Ethereum bridge (via our grant program), a node program aiming to expand our network to run nodes, updates to our IDE, and finally a new enterprise portal will offer businesses and organizations a dedicated platform to access Circular's blockchain solutions, strengthening our focus in onboarding businesses across the globe in critical industries on-chain.

Lastly, What are your thoughts on the Web3 culture and its current direction?

I think this cycle's meta has been unlike any other, with the culture seemingly diverging in opposite directions.
On one side, institutional adoption has surged, marked by ETF approvals and the tokenization of real-world assets by major firms like BlackRock.
This movement has solidified web3 and crypto’s status as a legitimate financial asset class within traditional markets.
In recent weeks we’ve also seen crypto become a significant topic in the context of the upcoming US elections, highlighting its growing influence and prominence.
On the other side, the user-centric aspect of the current web3 landscape is undeniably being driven by meme and celebrity coins, reflecting the silly, fun, and sometimes absurd side of web3 culture.
The popularity of platforms such as pump.fun has opened a new kind of PVP meta driven by low barriers to entry, instant trading, and has brought a new social aspect to crypto.
I think this duality was well captured by Chris Dixon, legendary investor and partner at a16z, who described web3 and crypto as the coexistence of two intertwined philosophies: "the casino" and "the computer.’ The difference between these two movements is now more obvious than ever.
Moving forward, I expect to see concepts like account / blockchain abstraction as being key to onboarding new users to the web3 community.
We’re already seeing this now with several ‘smart wallet’ products being released by great teams in the space, I think these kind of products give a glimpse into the future direction of bringing more people into web3 who might not identify with the casino or the computer camps, but value the web3 ecosystems for their philosophies around ownership, verifiable truth, privacy and accessibility.
